Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this prospective study was to explore carotid plaque characteristics of Japanese population using 3-Tesla MRI. Carotid plaque characteristics in a specific atherosclerotic population appeared different between Japanese (Asian) and Caucasian Americans. In Japanese population, symptomatic carotids had high-risk plaque features more frequently than asymptomatic carotids. This study indicated that evaluation of Japanese carotid plaque characteristics using 3-Tesla MRI is feasible; it also demonstrated association of high-risk plaque characteristics with cerebrovascular ischemic events.
