Research Abstract |
Soluble endoglin, which antagonizes vascularization, is elevated in serum in preeclamptic women. This study showed soluble endoglin inhibited hypoxia-induced autophagy in extravillous trophoblasts. Additionally, p62 protein, which is a selective protein degraded by autophagosome, accumulated in extravillous trophoblasts in placental bed biopsy samples of preeclampsia as well as autophagy-deficient EVT cell lines. Taken together, soluble endoglin-mediated autophagy inhibition in extravillous trophoblast was involved in pathophysiology of preeclampsia.
