Research Abstract |
Blood and saliva from the patients might be spread as aerosols and droplet spatter during dental treatments in dental institutions' environment. So, among the most urgent problems is to deal with Infection control improvement for dental care. The aim of this study was to investigate the microbial contamination in dental environments such as dental unit, its water lines and to survey the incidence in Japanese dental clinics of the cigarette beetle Lasioderma serricorne (FABRICIUS). This epidemiological analyses revealed that the environment around the dental units in the clinics were so highly contaminated and the risk of cross-infection. The surface contamination monitoring by ATP-bioluminescence method and the survey for the FABRICIUS in dental clinics were easy and rapid. So, these would be also useful and effective for the environmental hygiene monitoring in dental clinics and also the comprehensive infection control measures based on compliance with standard precautions.
