Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study aims to construct a self-management support system for elderly patients with stomach cancer who have undergone a surgery. An interview and examination of the support required for such patients revealed that most patients require support for autonomous adjustment of food intake levels and/or contents. Hence, we believed the utilization of an existing program “The Autonomous Food Intake Adjustment Program for Post-Gastrectomy Patients,” which was developed by Yamaguchi et al. (2006) to be useful. We examined issues in the clinical utilization of this program and found that nurses did not provide feedback required for learning food intake adjustment to these patients, as per the program. Therefore, a system in which nurses can continue providing feedback should be constructed.
