Outline of Research at the Start

代表者らは「互いに鏡映しの関係にあるカイラル物質において遠隔的に電子のスピンの向きを制御する方法」を世界で初めて発見した。しかし、なぜこのような現象が起こるのかは全く未解明である。「純粋に量子力学に従う電子のスピンの向きが、幾何学的なカイラル構造と絡み合うだけでなぜ制御されるのか?」という点に世界中の研究者の強い関心が集まっている。代表者らは長年にわたりカイラル物質の合成・測定・理論に関する研究を先導しており、その総力を結集して《カイラル物質が生み出すスピン偏極の仕組み》を解き明かす。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

非磁性・絶縁体カイラル結晶である水晶においてスピン信号を電気検出することに世界で初めて成功し、論文発表に至った。カイラル結晶に特有の振動運動(カイラルフォノン)が持つ角運動量をスピン角運動量に変換できることを示しており、本研究課題の作業仮説《構造の揺らぎと電子スピン間の角運動量のやり取り》を実証するものである。カイラル物質が示すスピン偏極の発現機構を解明するための重要な手掛かりを得たと考えている。
さらに、「物質合成」「物性計測」「理論」の観点から研究を進め、次の研究成果を得た。
「物質合成」:カイラリティ制御した大型単結晶やナノ結晶の育成に成功した。長尺試料やナノシートを用いてスピン偏極応答を調べている。
「物性計測」:合成したカイラルナノ物質を対象に光照射下での電気輸送特性の計測を進めている。また、円偏波マイクロ波や円偏波超音波を用いた高周波計測の開発を進め、カイラル磁気秩序の共鳴特性を明らかにした。キラル超伝導体の電気伝導における磁気キラル異方性の研究を行い、超伝導転移点付近で従来の理論予想をはるかに超える非相反伝導特性を観測した。
「理論」:格子系の自由度に焦点を当てた理論研究を進めた。カイラル結晶のらせん対称操作を考慮した格子振動の波動関数を構築し、それを用いて擬角運動量と力学的角運動量の定量的な計算の枠組みを構築した。また、多極子基底を用いた電気・磁気クラスターの表現論を応用し、カイラリティの量子論的な定義を明確にした。さらに、多極子完全基底の枠組みを現実の物質系に適用するソフトウェア開発を行い、カイラル系の典型物質であるテルルや捻りメタンなどを対象に、第一原理電子状態計算ベースで定量的に分析した。また、カイラル系の新しい交差相関応答を提案した。

Reason

特筆すべき研究成果として、非磁性・絶縁体カイラル結晶である水晶においてスピン信号を電気検出することに世界で初めて成功し、論文発表に至った。カイラル結晶に特有の振動運動(カイラルフォノン)が持つ角運動量をスピン角運動量に変換できることを示しており、本研究課題の作業仮説に据える《構造の揺らぎと電子スピン間の角運動量のやり取り》を実証するものである。カイラル物質が示すスピン偏極の発現機構を解明するための重要な手掛かりを得たと考えている。さらに「物質合成」「物性計測」「理論」の観点から次のように進捗している。
「物質合成」:カイラリティ制御した大型単結晶の育成に成功した。長尺試料における電子輸送特性を計測し、スピン偏極応答を調べている。カイラル物質のナノ結晶の合成に成功した。TEM、AFM観察から形状を確認し、光学活性から光学純度を確認した。ナノシートの合成にも成功し、評価を進めている。
「物性計測」:合成したカイラルナノ物質を対象に光照射下での電気輸送特性の計測を進めている。円偏波マイクロ波を用いた高周波計測の開発を進め、カイラル磁気秩序の共鳴特性を明らかにした。更に、円偏波超音波の開発を進め、スピン秩序との結合を調べている。これらの偏極外場制御に関する基盤技術を確立し、スピン偏極計測を行う準備を進めている。非相反伝導係数の温度依存性においてフィッティング係数が異常に大きいことが明らかとなった。
「理論」:多極子完全基底の枠組みを現実の物質系に適用するソフトウェア開発を行い、カイラル系の典型物質であるテルルや捻りメタンなどを対象に、第一原理電子状態計算ベースで定量的に分析した。また、カイラル系の新しい交差相関応答を提案した。第一原理計算に基づき解析する理論的枠組とソフトウェアはほぼ完成しており、磁性カイラル物質を含む群論的分類と交差相関をまとめた招待レビュー論文3篇を投稿中である。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

引き続き、「物質合成」「物性計測」「理論」の観点から協奏的に研究を進める。有機分子から無機結晶まで幅広いカイラル物質群を育成し、電気的・光学的プローブを用いてカイラルフォノンとスピン偏極応答を精査し、微視的・巨視的また実験・理論の両面から、スピン偏極の発現機構を解明する。具体的には次のように研究を進める。
「物質合成」:継続して、伝導特性の異なる有機分子系と無機結晶系のカイラル物質を合成する。また、カイラリティや形状を制御したカイラル物質の合成を進める。
「物性計測」:継続して、偏極外場(円偏光・円偏波マイクロ波・円偏波超音波など)の制御方法を確立することに注力する。並行して、電気計測と光学計測を用いて、カイラル物質に誘起するスピン偏極応答を精査する。超伝導ダイオード効果や逆スピンホール効果の計測を行い、非相反伝導を引き起こすと考えられるスピン偏極伝導のメカニズムを解明する。
「理論」:カイラルフォノン理論と多極子理論を用いてカイラル電子系とカイラル格子系及びその相互作用を取り込んだ有効模型を導出する。開発したソフトウェアを用いて、ダイシリサイドカイラル物質系の異方性やスピン軌道相互作用強度と輸送係数との定量的相関関係を調べるほか、カイラルフォノンの第一原理計算ベースの解析、電子格子相互作用の分析を通じて、CISSの本質に迫っていく。
以上の取り組みを通じて、幅広いカイラル物質における電気計測・光学計測による実験データを得る。理論から得られるスピン偏極特性と照合し、微視的・巨視的また実験・理論の両面からカイラル物質特有のスピン偏極機構の解明へ迫る。
