Outline of Research at the Start

アルテミス計画に代表される巨大な国際協力の枠組みで進行しつつある月着陸探査機への搭載を目標に、小型質量分析計による表面年代のその場計測装置の基礎開発を行う。具体的には、質量分析装置の小型高性能化、固体試料処理機構の製作、両ユニットの結合試験を実施する。これにより、月着陸機搭載装置開発に必要なクリティカル技術課題を洗い出し、ミッション定 義審査に必要な情報を揃えることを目標とする。最終的に、世界初の月物質のその場年代計 測を実現し、惑星表面でのその場質量分析技術を確立することを目指す。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

アルテミス計画に代表される巨大な国際協力の枠組みで進行しつつある月着陸探査機への搭載を目標に、小型質量分析計による表面年代のその場計測装置の基礎開発を行った。具体的には、飛行時間型質量分析装置の小型高性能化、LIBS用の小型分光計の試作品作成、固体試料処理機構の製作、光学カメラの設計検討等を進めた。飛行時間型質量分析器については、前年度の製作した分析器をイオン源と接続してH2OやN2などのガスを導入して質量スペクトルを取得するとともに、独立した他の質量分析器との比較・検証を実施した．得られた実験データから，設計要求であるH, N, O, H2O, N2などの弁別が達成されていることを確認した。並行して、別計画で開発済みの飛行時間型質量分析装置を貴ガス発生装置に結合させて感度評価実験を実施し、このタイプの質量分析装置を使った実験としては初めて貴ガスのスペクトルをえることに成功した。小型分光計については、前年度に開発した試作品を用いて、宇宙機搭載用の小型レーザーの照射で生じるプラズマ発光スペクトルの計測性能を評価する実験を実施し、良好な結果を得た。これらの実験結果を踏まえて、米国の共同研究者と共同でNASAのアルテミス計画への科学機器搭載提案の申請書を提出し、第１段階審査を通過した。質量分析装置の試作が当初予定通りに進んだこと、LIBS用の小型分光計の性能評価実験でも期待通りの結果が得られたことは重要な成果である。さらに、宇宙用に開発した飛行時間型質量分析装置を用いて実際の貴ガス分析に供して有意なデータを得たことと本研究の開発結果を用いて実際の探査機搭載提案書にまとめることができたことは大きな進展である。

Reason

質量分析装置の試作とLIBS用の小型分光計を用いた性能評価実験が予定より早めに実現できた反面、固体試料処理機構の製作は若干遅れている。さらに、本研究の成果に基づいてNASAのアルテミス計画へ米国の共同研究者と共に搭載提案ができたことも重要な成果であった。これら全体を踏まえて、概ね順調な進捗だと考えている。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

第３年度の今年は、当初の研究提案書に述べた4作業を着実に進めて、質量分析装置と固体試料処理機構を結合した試験の実施を目指す方針である。その一方で、アルテミス計画への搭載の採否は予断を許さないので、引き続きiSpaceなど他の探査計画への搭載機会を模索して種々の条件情報の収集活動を充実される方針とする。
