Outline of Research at the Start |
Polypedilum vanderplanki (Pv) can survive desiccation by stopping their metabolism and then reactivate when rehydrated, meaning that dried Pv brains are capable of complete metabolic arrest in a reactivatable state. This study aims to identify the genetic and metabolic events required to preserve the entire brain during desiccation and storage, and to understand the unique protective genes that appear only in Pv. The findings allow us to lead to new developments in biotechnology and biomedicine, such as drugs for the treatment of ischemia-reperfusion shock caused by stroke.
