Outline of Research at the Start

五感の中でも嗅覚は、多くの動物にとって生死に関わる重要な感覚であるが、ヒト社会では視聴覚が優位で、嗅覚は五感の中でもなくても良い感覚の筆頭にあがる。一方で、ヒト社会でもQOLやヒト同士の対話に、嗅覚は無意識のうちに関わっていると考えられる状況証拠は存在する。本研究提案では、ヒト間のコミュニケーションにおける匂い（嗅覚）の役割を理解することを目標とし、天然物分析化学、生化学・分子生物学、神経科学・生理学、心理学といった領域横断的なアプローチを用いて、分子、受容体、脳、心理、生理、行動といった多階層レベルで、ヒトにおける嗅覚コミュニケーションの分子神経基盤を明らかにする。
