| Outline of Research at the Start |
In order to create a transdisciplinary synthesis between Asian American literary studies and health/medical humanities to understand the illicit intimacy between war and medicine, I collect, read, and analyze Asian American writings on war and medicine and historical materials about this issue.

| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
2023年は主に二つのことに集中して研究を行った。一つは沖縄系カナダ人作家Darcy Tamayoseの作品_Odori_の中で描かれる沖縄戦でのmilitary medicineについて情報を収集し、学会発表論文を書くこと。もう一つは中国系アメリカ人作家Ling Maの_Severance_の中で扱われている、人種と感染症の問題について考え、アンソロジーの一章を執筆することである。
Tamayoseの作品については、ひめゆり平和祈念資料館、沖縄陸軍病院南風原壕などを訪れたり、東京の国立国会図書館と傷痍軍人についての資料が豊富にある東京千代田区の「しょうけい館」を訪れ資料や情報を収集した。また作家本人が秋に琉球大に滞在したのでインタビューを行うことができた。理論的に参考になったのはKyla Schullerの_The Biopolitics of Feeling:Race, Sex, and Science in the Nineteenth Century_である。学会発表はフィラデルフィアで開催されたModern Language Associationで行うことができた。
Ling Maの作品については、植民地主義と感染症、移民法,人種、病の扱われ方などを中心に資料を収集するとともに精読を行った。Mel Y. Chenの_Animacies:Biopolitics, Racial Mattering, and Queer Affect_は大変参考になる文献であった。3月末に論文のドラフトを書き上げたが、これから推敲が必要な状態である。

Reason
資料収集はうまくいき、学会発表もできたが、学内の業務が2023年度は重く研究の進度が遅れている。またもう一つ科研課題を持っており、そちらの研究も進める必要があった。

2024年度は2023年度に書いた学会論文や論文のドラフトをより推敲し良い論文に仕上げていきたい。またBiopoliticsやnew materialism, posthumanismなど理論的な知識の構築に力を注いでいきたいと思う。
