Outline of Research at the Start

水資源の獲得とその維持管理は、乾燥地域であるオリエントの古代社会において、死活問題であった。本研究はこうした古代における水資源開発及び水管理の在り方を、エジプ ト西方砂漠のハルガ・オアシスを対象として明らかにすることを目的とする。そこで本研究においては、ペルシア由来のカナートやローマ由来の導水管といった外国支配勢力が導入した水利技術に着目し、古代エジプト文化の中心をなす神殿と関連付け、考古学的知見と文字資料の分析を併せて水資源開発と水管理の全体像を描き出すことを試みる。
