Outline of Research at the Start	近年、日本各地で自然災害が多発するなか、交通インフラの維持が全国的な課題になりつつある。本研究では、災害多発リスクをかかえる日本の交通インフラの維持にどのようなオルタナティブの可能性があるのかを政治学的に検討していく。第一に1987年の国鉄分割・民営化にさかのぼり、今日に連なる交通インフラと政治・行政の関係が国有鉄道がなくなることによってどのように変化し、それが現在にどのような影響を及ぼしているのかを考察する（歴史的観点）。第二に2021年7月にドイツなどで発生した大水害への各国政府の対応を通して、ヨーロッパにおいて交通インフラと政治・行政がどのような関係にあるのかを検討する（比較の観点）。
