Outline of Research at the Start |
This research will examine the effects of inequality on innovation and economic growth, using empirical analyses and case studies on East Asian countries such as Japan and Korea. Without sharing the fruit of growth with many people in the whole society, sustainable economic growth is impossible. I will focus my study on the channel of innovation between inequality and growth, different from current studies. I will conduct empirical analyses using cross-country panel data and also investigate experiences of East Asian countries.
|
Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In 2023, I have examined the related literauture about inequalit and innovation, including theoretical and empirical studies. I have worked on reviewing these studies by summarizing and anlayzing those. I have attended several international conferences and seminars in which I makde presentations about the effect of technological progress on inequality, and also the experience of Korea. I published several papers based on these research. Besides, I have attempted to find and collect international datasets on income and wealth inequality, and also those on innovation such as patents and total factor productivity.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
I thikn that the research progress is as I planned. I plan to make more efforts to develop my own framework to analyzie the relationship between inequality and innovation, together with the efforts to find more data for empirical study.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In 2024 and 2025, I will develop three areas of my research. First, I will summarize and present the thoeretical reasonging on how income and wealth inequality is associated with innovation. Second, I will think of the relevant empirical specifications and methods to examine this relationship. Finally, I will examine experiences of several countries on inequality and innovation to emphasize the importance of inclusive and sustainable growth with technological progress, by checking several countries.
