Outline of Research at the Start	画像処理、数理解析、人工知能を融合し、木材の構造への理解を深めようとする学際的研究手段を開拓することによって、木材の組織構造に潜む生物のリズムを解析し、生物体としての樹木の個性や生存戦略の俯瞰的な理解を獲得することを目的とする。具体的には、系統上近縁の広葉樹材を対象とし、光学顕微鏡画像から各々の細胞ごとにセグメンテーションを行い、トポロジーに着眼したネットワーク解析に供する。得られたデータをもとに、年輪内における、通道機能や支持機能への分化、晩材化などの生理現象に伴う細胞の動態を追跡し、樹種特性や系統分類につながる新しい解剖学的な知見の発掘を目指す。
