Outline of Research at the Start

鉄は酸素輸送を始め、DNA合成やエネルギー産生を担う酵素の活性中心であるために生命活動に必須の金属であるが、鉄剤の過剰投与や遺伝性ヘモクロマトーシス（鉄過剰症）は肝炎や心筋症など様々な臓器障害を引き起こす。また近年、乳がん、肺がん、前立腺がんを始めとしたがんの発症リスクと食事性鉄摂取量は正の相関関係にあることが数々の大規模コホート研究により明らかとなった。そこで本研究課題は細胞内鉄調節タンパク質を阻害する化合物を探索し、副作用の少ない新たな治療薬の開発を目指す。
