Outline of Research at the Start

申請者は血管石灰化の治療標的として、血中を流れるリン酸カルシウムのコロイド粒子(CPP)に着目している。CPPとは本来、リン酸とカルシウムを析出させずに運搬する担体と考えられるが、この「生理的CPP」が凝集すると、血管を障害する「病的CPP」に変貌する。申請者はCPPの主な構成蛋白質であるFetuin-Aの補充が、病的CPPの形成と血管石灰化を抑制する可能性を見出した。本研究では、Fetuin-Aの補充によって病的CPP形成を抑制することで血管石灰化が予防・治療できることを証明するとともに、病的CPPによる血管石灰化のメカニズムを解明する。
