Outline of Research at the Start

小説では、登場人物の知覚（見たり聞いたり触ったりしたもの）を通した経験をもとに物語が展開していくことが多くある。本研究では、近現代の英語小説で、どのように登場人物の知覚経験が物語を形作っているのかを、２つのステップを通して明らかにしていく。まず、登場人物の知覚経験がどのように言葉によって表されているのか、つまり知覚描写の言語形式の特徴を考察する。次に、物語の語り方（本研究では物語を進める時制の選択）に着目し、語り方の違いによって、小説において登場人物の知覚の意味機能がどのように異なっているのかを分析する。
