Outline of Research at the Start |
The study focuses on implementing VLSs instruction to aid students’ vocabulary development and further examines the possible effects of VLSs instruction on vocabulary learning among Japanese undergraduates with different proficiency levels. The proposed study will be a longitudinal study of one cohort (students with VLSs instruction), VLSs questionnaires and interviews. The VLSs chosen for instruction are based on Schmitt’s (1997) taxonomy. VLSs instruction will be taught to the students in regular English lessons starting from academic year (AY) 2023 to AY 2024.

Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In the academic year 2023, my research endeavors culminated in the delivery of two significant presentations at international conferences, shedding light on vital aspects of research methodology and design within the realm of language learning. These presentations served as platforms to disseminate findings and engage with fellow scholars on the intricacies of vocabulary learning strategies (VLSs) instruction.
During the same academic year, my focus extended beyond the confines of conference halls to the implementation of practical research tools. This included the deployment of VLSs questionnaires and Vocabulary pretests, crucial components in understanding the effectiveness and nuances of vocabulary acquisition strategies.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
My research progress is proceeding smoothly, with successful implementation of various methodologies and delivery of presentations at international conferences. The implementation of VLSs questionnaire and Vocabulary pretest in AY 2023 marked significant milestones, complemented by the ongoing delivery of VLSs instruction throughout AY 2023 and AY 2024.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
After the completion of VLSs instruction, one posttest and VLSs post-questionnaire will be conducted, followed by interviews.
