Outline of Research at the Start

We estimate the impact of self-reported occurrences of droughts and floods on crop and livestock net income in sub-Saharan Africa during the period 2009-2020 by using the most recent household survey data with georeferenced information as well as spatially and temporarily detailed weather data.

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、アフリカの家計調査データや気象データに基づく実証的証拠を提供することで、異常気象が農業に与える影響に関する研究分野に貢献する。具体的には、まず地理参照情報を含む最新の家計調査データを使用して、サハラ以南アフリカで発生した干ばつと洪水の農業収入への影響を推定する。次に、空間的および時間的に詳細な気象データから干ばつと洪水の指標を構築することにより、経済的影響を測定する方法を検討する。本研究は、干ばつと洪水が農業に与える影響を定量化する既存の方法論を改善するだけでなく、異常気象や気候変動の影響に対処するための政策と戦略に関する新しい洞察も提供する。
2023年度は、関連する既存の研究成果を整理し、入手可能なデータを用いて基礎研究を行うことが目的であり、国内外の共同研究者と連携を取りながら、下記のように研究を遂行した。
[1] 本研究に必要なアフリカの家計調査データや気象データの入手することができた。このため、予定を前倒しして、入手したデータの整理・加工に取り組み、干ばつと洪水がアフリカの農業に与える影響について分析を開始した。
[2] 既存の研究に使用されている分析モデルを整理し、本研究で使用する分析モデルを検討し、その開発に取り組んだ。また、既存の研究で使用されている干ばつと洪水の指標を整理した上で、本研究で使用する指標について検討を進めた。
[3] その他、関連する既存の研究成果の整理に取り組んだ。
