Outline of Research at the Start |
The research theme is “a model for supply chain integration (SCI) strategy selection.” The novelty of this study includes a model for SCI strategy, visualization techniques, and an evaluation framework so that scholars and firms can deeply understand SCI process, learn to design and practice SCI.
|
Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In the first year of this project, I finished building a theoretical framework of the supply chain integration (SCI) strategy selection in manufacturing industries which use custom parts. This work was posted as a discussion paper on Tohoku Management & Accounting Research Group on November 17, 2023. Its title is "Why and how firms conduct specific supply chain integration strategies? Considering the configurations of the customer order decoupling point and supply chain integration". It was also submitted to international journal and is under reviews for publication. This work is the fundamental to continue my research in the following years.
Besides, I gained knowledge about Vietnamese health & beauty care market, and built networks with managers of companies for the next data collection.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The research project is progressing as submitted plans-"data of multiple cases of Japanese health & beauty care product supply chains in Vietnam will be collected within two years (2023-2024)". In 2023, the market investigation about the market tastes, the distribution channels of some Japanese health & beauty care product was conducted in Vietnam. This market research was combined in my private trips using my own money because I want to save the money for later official rounds of interviews with big companies and international conferences. Market observations and unofficial interviews with local distributors builds up the general knowledge which is fundamental to the following data collection and analysis in 2024.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
- I was accepted to present my research results at European Operations Management Association- EurOMA 2024 in Barcelona from June 29- July 3, 2024. The purpose of this trip is to share the knowledge and receive the comments and network with prestigious professors and managers to improve my theoretical frameworks of the supply chain integration (SCI) strategy selection. - Interviews and site visits with managers of Japanese health & beauty care products who are doing or will do business in Vietnam in the near future from May to September, 2024. - Learn quantitative methods and conduct some surveys related to Supply Chain Integration/ Viability/ Sustainability where possible to prepare for the second stage of this project- increase the generalization of the research results.
