Outline of Research at the Start |
This study aims to explore and build the mechanism of a dual model retail in emerging markets. To attain this objective, we observe the development of the traditional Vietnamese wet markets from the 1990s and compare it with the development of Japanese shotengai from the 1970s.
|
Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In the first year, we reviewed related research theories, built the theoretical framework, and conducted a preliminary investigation. We examined theories on retail evolution and studies about the coexistence of traditional and modern retail in emerging markets. Additionally, we incorporated theories of dynamic capabilities to create the research framework. We investigated the development process of Vietnam's retail sector and analyzed the characteristics of its modernization. Furthermore, we analyzed the role of the traditional retail format by observing and comparing it with modern retail systems operated by multinational enterprises in the Vietnamese market.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
We are conducting research according to the established plan. The research results have been compiled and presented at domestic and international conferences. Important analyses have been written into dissertations and published in specialized journals.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In the second year, we conducted both quantitative and qualitative investigations for businesses operating in Vietnamese wet markets and Japanese shopping streets. We analyze the research results for each group separately and gather data for comparative analyses to be conducted in the following research year.
