Keywords | Stress / Atopic dermatitis |
Outline of Research at the Start |
Atopic dermatitis (AD), which is a chronic inflammatory skin disease, manifests as intractable itch. Psychological stress may have a role in the onset or exacerbation of skin disorders such as AD. However, pathophysiologic links between psychological stressors and cutaneous manifestations remain unclear. Therefore, this study focuses on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA) and aims to elucidate the mechanism of exacerbation of the pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis, including itching and dermatitis, and delayed recovery by applying psychological stress to a mouse model of AD.

Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Atopic dermatitis (AD), which is a chronic inflammatory skin disease, manifests as intractable itch. Psychological stress may have a role in the onset or exacerbation of skin disorders such as AD. Psychological stress may influence AD, but the links between psychological stressors and cutaneous manifestations remain unclear. I have completed the essential techniques for studying Project 1, which include the following steps: 1. Inducing AD-like symptoms; 2. Selecting stressors: Three different types of stressors are selected for stress loading, including WS, RS, and R-SDS; 3. Evaluating the effects of stress on AD symptoms; 4. Studying the effects of stress on alloknesis.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The following research project 1(Generation of AD-like model and evaluation of psychological stress load) was completed last year.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The following research Project 2:Effects of psychological stress on the structure and function of skin barrier and sensory nerve fibers: 1, [Effects of stress on AD symptoms] The selected stresses will be given from the AD-induced process to NC/Nga mice to evaluate the skin barrier itch behavior and the degree of dermatitis to study the effect of stress on AD pathogenesis. 2, [Effects of stress on sensory nerve fibers] To further confirm the skin barrier disruption and sensory nerve fibers, I will collect and analyze the skin tissues from each group for immunohistochemical and histology.
