Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では、培地上で植物組織を増やす植物バイオテクノロジー「植物組織培養」を用いた和紙原料の安定供給技術の開発研究を通して、紙漉きの伝統技術の安定的伝承と和紙品質向上の基盤を作り、和紙を用いた文化財保護等に貢献することをめざす。研究対象は、紙漉きに必須な粘剤「ネリ」の原料、トロロアオイである。ネリの成分はトロロアオイの根に含まれる多糖質とされている。そこで、本研究では、培地中で根のみで旺盛に増殖する「毛状根」を、トロロアオイ植物体から誘導し、さらにネリ生産に適したトロロアオイ毛状根培養環境を探索することで、ネリの周年安定供給と質の安定化を試みる。
