Keywords
Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements

We established an experimental system to screen brain regions that link olfaction to defecation control. To achieve this, we developed two experimental systems: one to screen the effects of odor on defecation, and another to identify the brain regions influenced by odor stimuli. In the experiment designed to assess the impact of odor on defecation, we confirmed that odor stimulation can induce defecation. To screen brain regions associated with olfaction and defecation control, we developed a method using tissue clearing and light-sheet microscopy that enables comprehensive analysis of the entire rat brain. We optimized the tissue clearing protocol for the rat brain and conducted research and development of a light-sheet microscope adapted for imaging the whole rat brain.
