Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements

To promote casual conversations that have decreased due to the spread of remote work, we developed a social robot equipped with a gaze presentation function and tested its effectiveness. The robot switches between concave and convex eyes to enable wide-range gaze presentation (concave) and focused gaze in a specific direction (convex). It has a simple appearance and is equipped with human detection, gaze tracking, and remote communication functions. Three experiments were conducted, and it was confirmed that the "convex-following" condition was particularly effective in triggering casual conversations. The experimental results indicate that rather than the breadth of gaze, the robot directing its gaze with movement is more effective in attracting attention and initiating conversations in remote environments.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
