Outline of Research at the Start

本研究事業では、レドックス超分子研究分野において、研究代表者と国内連携拠点の各研究分担者らが築き上げてきたグローバルネットワークの強化と拡張・推進に向けて、緊密な共同研究と人材育成体制を整備・拡大し、長期的な視点からのグローバルな展開を図る。本事業では、長期派遣(2年から3年間)を全期間中15名および短期派遣(3ヶ月)を年間5名予定している。また、短期研修支援として年間15名の若手研究者を海外学会・ワークショップへ派遣することを予定している。本共同研究事業を契機に、これまで世界各国に散在していたグローバルなレドックス超分子の学術体系を融合・深化させた「レドックス超分子生命科学」を創成するものである。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

近年、レドックス超分子による生命機能制御の視点から生命原理を理解しようとする世界的な潮流が高まってきた。生体内のレドックス超分子は量子すなわち電子エネルギー動態により支配されており、我々はこれを「レドックス超分子の先端科学」という新しい枠組みとして捉えて、国際的な共同研究を精力的に展開してきた。自然界に普遍的に存在する酸素分子や活性分子種[活性酸素や酸化窒素種等]をはじめ、生体内で活発に産生・代謝されている一連の物質を「レドックス超分子(Redox supermolecules)」と総称する。一方、地球の生命進化を牽引してきたもう一つの重要なレドックス超分子として、超硫黄分子が挙げられる。最近の国際共同研究により、世界ではじめて、単一の硫黄が連鎖した超硫黄分子が生物種普遍的に大量に産生され、エネルギー代謝や酸化ストレス制御などの多彩な生命現象に関わることが分かってきた。本研究事業では、研究代表者と国内連携拠点の各研究分担者らが築き上げてきた、レドックス超分子研究分野におけるグローバルネットワークの強化と拡張・推進に向けて、緊密な共同研究と人材育成体制を整備・拡大し、長期的な視点からのグローバルな展開を図る。当該事業推進を契機に、これまで世界各国に散在していたグローバルなレドックス超分子の学術体系を融合・深化させた「レドックス超分子生命科学」を創成するものである。このことにより世界規模の研究共創を学術と若手人材育成の観点から俯瞰し戦略的に推進することで、生命科学のみならず基礎および臨床医学さらには人類の健康福祉の向上に大きく貢献することが期待される。

Reason

初年度である当該年度は、東北大学にレドックス研究拠点としてのリエゾンオフィスを設置し、海外の著名なレドックス研究者を招聘し、第1回国際シンポジウムを開催した。加えて、博士研究員および博士課程学生数名の海外派遣・研修を開始した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

当該事業の当初目的に照らして、事業遂行の上での問題はなく順調に進展している。引き続き、国内拠点メンバーによる大学院生やポスドクの海外派遣や研修、共同研究を管理・運営することにより、レドックス超分子研究の卓越した若手人材育成を強力に推進する。
