Outline of Research at the Start |
The research is a multidisciplinary project involving linguists, computer scientists and second language education specialists. It aims at designing a methodological template for the development of automatic assessment systems of both phonetic forms and lexical use of L2 French phonological lexicon by Japanese learners. To do so, it is divided into two stages: (1) corpus parsing to determine essential targets; (2) specific data elicitation task design and completion to feed automatic systems.

Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In 2023, we analyzed the results collected in Tokyo in the Fall 2022, and reached our main methodological objective, i.e., assessing the validity of our procedure to collect data in a semi-constrained bimodal (spoken and written) translation task (from Japanese to French), in order to evaluate spoken L2 lexical forms uttered by Japanese learners of French, with a specific focus on morphophonological ambiguities. The analysis was conducted with Dr L. Fontan and V. De Fino. Workshops and lectures were co-organized in Japan and a conference in Paris (IPFC2023). In 2023, Prof. Detey published a book in French for the general audience about speech evaluation education, with several presentations. Final results of our work will be presented at EuroSLA33 (July 2024) and ultimately published.
