Outline of Research at the Start

In this study, we will conduct a comprehensive analysis of the data obtained from the four tests designed to measure learners' implicit and explicit pragmatic knowledge, before and after their study abroad experience. The findings from this analysis will be presented at the American Association for Applied Linguistics (AAAL) conference in March 2025.
We will disseminate the findings from previous studies within this research project at two conferences: TBLT Asia 2024 in Nagoya and ALAA-ALANZ 2024 in Australia.

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

2023年度は、2022年度に収集したデータの分析を行い、それをもとに論文『The effect of digital explicit-deductive instruction on the development of explicit and implicit pragmatic abilities』を共著で執筆した。その論文を含む共著書『Measuring Second Language Pragmatic Competence: A Psycholinguistic Perspective』を2024年3月にMultilingual Mattersより出版した。
国際学会Amerigan Acossiation of Applied Linguistic 2024(2024年3月)にて、研究成果を発表した。発表題目は、『What effect does deductive instruction have on the development of explicit and implicit pragmatic processing?』。学会中は語用論研究のオタゴ大学(ニュージーランド)のMinh Nguyen氏と共同研究について協議した。
引き続きデータ収集をおこなっている留学の成果を測る長期研究について、3月に留学を終えた参加者のデータを収集し、分析の準備を行った。

Reason

当初計画をしていたデータ収集・分析、論文執筆に加え、これまでの研究成果をまとめた海外協力者との共著書が出版され、引き続きデータ収集をおこなっている長期研究についてもデータ収集を終え、来年度に分析・出版を行う予定であり、当初の計画に沿っておおむね順調に進展している。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

留学の成果を測る長期研究のデータ分析を行い、論文発表及び学会発表を行う。
2024年7月に開催されるTBLT Asia学会(名古屋)にて、研究データの一部の成果について発表を行う。発表題目『Measuring pragmatic competence using roleplays: A genre-based approach』。
2024年11月にオーストラリアで開催されるApplied Linguistic Conferenceで、これまでの研究成果をまとめたコロキアムを開催予定。コロキアムでの発表題目は『The mediating effect of language exposure and formal instruction on the development of metapragmatic knowledge』。
2025年2月に大阪でこれまでの研究発表報告のための研究セミナーを実施予定。
