Outline of Research at the Start

シリア北東部のハブール川の流域に位置するテル・タバン遺跡（古代のマリ国の首都タベトゥ市）において日本隊が発見した、前13～11世紀の行政記録や書簡、建築記念碑文を記した粘土板と種々の土製品などの楔形文字文書を手掛かりにしながら、メソポタミアの歴史・社会・文化の諸相に関する研究に取り組む。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

２０２３年６月につくば市で開催された国際会議においてメソポタミア都市の守護神に関する講演を行った。２０２３年７月にはオランダのライデンで開催された国際アッシリア学会において、テル・タバン記念碑文に関する発表を行った。２０２３年１１月には、ミュンヘン大学のKaren Radner氏、Jamie Novotony氏らとメソポタミア王碑文に関する国際会議を研究拠点形成事業と共同でオーガナイズし、京都の同志社大学において開催した。この会議において柴田はテル・タバンレンガ碑文に関する発表を行った。ほか、２０２２年度にパリの国際会議で口頭発表したアッシリア王女に関する研究を改訂して論文にまとめ、寄稿し、受理された（２０２４年度にベルギーの学術出版社Brepolsから出版予定）。２０２３年４月には、柴田も紀元前１１ー９世紀アッシリアのチャプター（合計９６頁）を執筆したThe Oxford History of the Ancient Near East第四巻がOxford University Pressから出版された。２０２３年１２月には、柴田と山田も寄稿した『岩波講座世界歴史第２巻』が出版された。２０２４年１月には、ドイツの学術出版社Harrassowitzからハイデルベルク大学Stefan M. Maul教授の献呈論集が出版された。この献呈論集には、「マリの国」の領主アッシュル・ケタ・レシル２世の治世に行われた国土防衛政策、そして、その歴史的背景となったアッシリア王ティグラトピレセル１世治世におけるアラム人の侵略について包括的に研究した論文を寄稿した。2023年9月にはドイツのミュンヘン大学においてアッシリアに関する長期の資料調査と共同研究を実施した。
