高校地理歴史科の新しい必履修科目、「地理総合」に注目し、高等教育機関に務める研究者が中等教育の学校現場と連携する。歴史地理学の研究成果を歴史GISに応用して中・高・大における地理教育の活性化を図る目的から、①全国に分布する城下町に注目し、その中心としての城郭が防災の拠点になり得る側面に光を当てる。②歴史GISによる城下町絵図を作成する。③中高大連携による地理(学)教育における歴史GISの教材化も行う。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The field chosen in Fukushima Prefecture is Soma City, which has continued to serve as a regional center as a castle town since the Middle Ages. Over five years, local surveys were conducted repeatedly with research collaborators, but the population is decreasing in all districts. In Minami-soma City is the site of the Soma Nomaoi festival, the research representative visited by 2023 and was able to confirm videos of the Soma Nomaoi at the Minami-soma City Museum. Furthermore, in Namie Town, located further south and less than 10km from the Tokyo Electric Power Company Fukushima Daiichi (in Japanese, i.e., first in English) Nuclear Power Plant, evacuation orders were issued, but the evacuation orders for about 21,000 people have already been lifted. The cooperation of the returning townspeople was obtained, and a joint survey in his private car for a tour of the town was realized within 2024 with one research collaborator.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究は文部科学省による学習指導要領の改訂で高校地理歴史科の必履修科目として2022年度から全国一斉で登場した「地理総合」に注目し、高等教育機関に務める研究者による中等教育の学校現場との連携をも目指した。特に歴史地理学の研究成果を歴史GISに応用し、中・高・大の地理教育の活性化も狙い、全国に分布する城下町が持つ地域中心としての役割に注目した。研究代表者は2022年度末に神戸大学を定年退職後、2024年度は灘中学校で中学3年生対象に「地理」を教え、優秀な中学生を相手に高校生をも念頭に置いた試みを進めた。長く務めた神戸大学の地元についても兵庫地理学協会などと連携を図り、本格的な実施を目指した。
