本研究は、①CEOの知財活動に関する職務経験がCEOの特許戦略行動にどのような影響を及ぼすのか、②発明(イノベーション)に関する成功体験が、企業内研究者の研究開発行動にどのような影響を及ぼすのかを実証的に検証することを目的とする。
この研究の成果は、多種多様な経験を積ませることを目的としているジョブローテーションという日本的経営の合理性に対して企業経営上の重要な示唆を与えるものである。
研究計画としては、1～2年目では、データの整備・仮説構築・海外研究者からの助言、3～4年目では、分析・国内外の学会発表、5年目では、論文に纏め、学術雑誌に投稿する予定である。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study empirically examines how the career backgrounds of executives and the post-retirement roles of former CEOs within a company affect corporate strategic decision-making. Our analysis shows that when former CEOs remain as advisors, they tend to suppress strategic changes by newly appointed CEOs, with this effect being more pronounced when the new CEO is an outsider. Additionally, the appointment of a Chief Intellectual Property Officer (CIPO) enhances the distinctiveness of a firm’s intellectual property strategy, and this relationship is pronounced by the IP or R&D background of the CIPO and strengthens the strategic role of the IP department. Furthermore, the 2011 reduction in Japan’s patent examination fees negatively affected patent quality, particularly among lower-quality patents.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究は、経営者を含む役員のキャリアや元CEOの社内残留といった個人レベルの要因が企業戦略に与える影響を実証的に明らかにし、これまで十分に分析されてこなかった「権力」や「認知的バイアス」に着目した点で、認知理論に基づく経営戦略研究の発展に貢献している。また、知財分野を専門とする担当役員であるCIPOという新たな役職の戦略的意義を理論的に位置づけた点も、CxO研究や知財経営研究に新たな視座を提供している。
