Outline of Research at the Start

日本の科学教育は世界から注目されており、発展途上国等へ日本型教育を海外展開するうえで、重要なリソースである。しかし、教科書や実験・観察の扱いが大きく異なり、理科教育の輸出は容易ではない。本研究ではこれを克服するため、ベトナム・カンボジア・インドネシア・タイの中学校等を対象として、入手が容易な部品を組み合わせた物理系実験教材を開発し、管理や修理を容易にする。そのために研究者と院生研究補助による事前の現地事情調査を行う。作成した教材を用いた日本での試行授業を、現地教員・学生を招聘して観察させ、自国の学校で実施してもらい、研究者と院生研究補助がそれを参観・指導する。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

In order to expand Japanese-style science education, which is characterized by “making children aware” through experiments, overseas to ASEAN and other countries, we developed and adjusted physics teaching materials with region-independent content and taught them to more than 300 prospective teacher students in Cambodia, Thailand, the Philippines, and other countries. The teaching materials consist of locally available parts and are intended to be repairable by teachers, so that children can try them out without fear of damage. The materials are simple and easy to assemble, and were well received by the 39 young local educators from six countries who were invited to Japan to learn about Japanese science education, as well as by the Japanese high school teachers. With the global emphasis on inquiry-based learning, this project was also important as a model education program for investigating and considering the actual situation, rather than following a theoretical approach.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

学術的意義は、簡素な構成でも受講者を十分魅了するだけの教材ができたことである。これは子どもが自ら操作しても故障をおそれず思いついた試行を行うことを可能とする。これにより子どもに探究意欲を沸かせれば、更なる学習動機にもつながる。探究学習が重視される昨今において高い価値が認められる。
社会的意義としては、「実験を通して子どもに気づかせる」という日本型理科教育の特徴が、教育をめぐる社会事情や理科教育の考え方に差異のあるような、他の国で理解されたこと。地域依存性の少ない物理の教育は、多国間の教育連携を期待でき、その中で日本はリーダーになるべき要素を持つ。この連携に関わる課題を見出すことができた。
