Outline of Research at the Start

細胞同士の接着である細胞接着、細胞が自発的に適切な組織や器官などの構造を作る細胞選別の理解は、生命科学分野における極めて重要な研究課題である。本研究では、細胞接着及び細胞選別現象に関して、数十万から数百万の細胞数からなる組織レベルの巨視的現象、数十から数百程度の細胞数からなる細胞レベルの微視的現象の双方について、数理モデリング、数値解析、数理解析、生命科学の現場における問題の解明に向けた応用を行う。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

細胞接着及び細胞選別現象について、数十万から数百万の細胞数からなる組織レベルの巨視的現象、数十から数百程度の細胞数からなる細胞レベルの微視的現象の双方について研究を行っている。微視的現象の数理モデリング研究については、前年度までに完遂しており、本年度は、その応用について検討を進めた。巨視的現象に対する研究については次のようにいくつかの進展があった。
1) 細胞選別現象に対する数理モデルを簡略化した2成分偏微分方程式系について時間離散化を行い、その時間離散スキームについての解析を進めた。
2) 細胞接着に基づく細胞選別現象は、細胞同士の直接の接触に起因する走性、いわば走触性によって引き起こされる。細胞接着に対する細胞集団モデルでは、非局所移流項によって走触性が表現されている。一方で、細胞が産生する化学物質を介して他の細胞とコンタクトを取り、適切な場所に移動する細胞の性質は走化性と呼ばれる。これは、局所的な偏微分方程式によって記述される。走触性現象と走化性現象には、相違点もあれば、共通点もある。これらの相違点や共通点を数理的に解析することにより、現象の数理的構造の解明に近づくことができる。本年度は、この共通点についての解析を進めるために、簡略化した問題を空間1次元において考察し、解析的結果を得た。簡略化しない問題及び空間多次元問題の解析についても検討を行った。
3) 生物の脳の神経細胞はカラム構造と呼ばれる円柱状の構造を作っており、多数のカラムが六角格子状に規則的に並ぶことによって、脳の複雑な処理を可能にしている。カラム構造は脳の機能単位であり、カラム構造形成のメカニズム、カラム配列のメカニズムを理解することは神経科学における重要な研究課題である。昨年度に引き続き、カラム配列のメカニズムの解明に数理モデリングと数値実験の立場から研究した。
