Outline of Research at the Start

超巨大ブラックホールのスピン(角運動量)を測定する有効な手段の一つが、X線帯域に現れるFe-Kα輝線のプロファイルから相対論的効果の度合いを見積もる方法である。しかしこれまでは、連続スペクトルの決定精度やX線分光性能が十分でなかったことが要因となり、高い信頼度での測定が困難だった。本研究では、2023年9月7日に打ち上げに成功したX線天文衛星XRISMを用いて活動銀河核からのX線放射を精密に分光するとともに、地上望遠鏡も組み合わせて多波長の同時観測を行い、時間変動解析によって連続スペクトルを精確に定量化する。これらの手法を組み合わせ、超巨大ブラックホールのスピンを高い信頼度で測定する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

X線分光撮像衛星XRISMのPerformance Verification(PV)期間に、軟X線分光装置Resolveおよび軟X線撮像装置Xrendを用いて複数の活動銀河核(AGN)を観測することに成功し、本年度はそれらのデータ解析を進めた。PV期間に観測したAGNの一つであるMCG-6-30-15は、これまでの研究で超巨大ブラックホール(BH)近傍の相対論的効果で広げられたFe-Kα輝線(相対論的Fe-Kα)プロファイルからBHスピンがほぼ最大と報告された一方、別の研究では、相対論的Fe-Kαプロファイルは複雑な電離吸収構造が作り出した擬似的な構造であり、BHスピンは0でも良いと報告されており、本研究の重要な研究対象と言える。XRISMによる精密X線分光の結果、複雑な電離吸収構造が作り出したものではなく、BH近傍の相対論的効果で広げられている可能性が高いことが判明した。相対論的Fe-KαプロファイルからBHスピンを定量化するには、プロファイルを決める際に差し引く連続放射の決定が不可欠である。このために、XRISMに搭載され、現時点ではResolveよりも広帯域をカバーできるXtendの運用や較正を軌道上データの解析および地上での実験を用いて進めた。さらに、連続放射を生み出すBH周辺の質量降着の物理を解明するため、複数のAGNでX線天文衛星と地上望遠鏡を組み合わせて、X線だけではなく可視光・赤外線の同時観測も進めた。本年度は、PV期間の後のXRISMの公募観測AO1において、相対論的Fe-Kαが卓越する別のAGNである3C120の観測提案を行うとともに、BHへの質量降着を探る上で重要なChanging-look AGN NGC 3516の観測提案をPIとして行い、両天体とも採択され、ともに観測が無事完了した。今後は、これらの天体のデータ解析を進めていく。

Reason

X線分光撮像衛星XRISMに搭載した軟X線分光装置Resolveを用いて、複数の活動銀河核(AGN)を精密X線分光することに成功し、MCG-6-30-15をはじめとする代表的なAGNにおいて、相対論的効果で広げられたFe-Kα輝線が、電離吸収構造などの別の効果で擬似的に生じたわけではないことが見えてきた。これより、降着円盤の内縁半径をXRISMの観測によって制限できる可能性が高まったとともに、内縁半径が最内殻安定円軌道に達していれば、超巨大ブラックホール(BH)のスピンの制限に繋げられることが分かった。さらに、Resolveを用いて、銀河が合体した後に激しい星形成とともに中心にAGNが現れた天体として知られる超高光度赤外線銀河IRAS F05189-2524を観測したところ、高いエネルギー分解能のおかげで、様々な速度で青方偏移したFe XXV/XXVI吸収線や幅の広い輝線を検出することができた。加えて、軟X線撮像装置XtendによるResolveと同時に得られた広帯域スペクトルで、質量降着率にも制限をつけることができた。Resolveで得られた吸収線や輝線は、BHへの降着流から物質が外向きに高速で噴き出す現象である超高速アウトフローによって生じると考えられ、Resolveのデータを詳細に解析することにより、BHへの質量降着現象だけでなく、質量、運動量、エネルギーが外向きに流出する現象も捉えることに成功している。特に超高速アウトフローによる幅の広い輝線は、相対論的効果でプロファイルが広げられたFe-Kα輝線とスペクトルがよく似ているため、これらを切り分ける上でも重要な結果を得ることができた。これらのことから、本研究はおおむね順調に進展できていると考えている。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

X線分光撮像衛星XRISMの公募観測AO1において、これまでの観測で相対論的効果で広げられたFe-Kα輝線(相対論的Fe-Kα)が報告されてきた活動銀河核(AGN)である3C120をPIとして200 ksec観測した。そこで、Performance Verification(PV)期間に観測したMCG-6-30-15と並行して、3C120のデータ解析も進めていく。軟X線分光装置Resolveや軟X線撮像装置Xtendの特徴を活かし、多波長観測の情報も加味しながら、超巨大ブラックホール(BH)から遠方の降着流で生じる細い輝線・吸収線や反射成分、部分的に電離吸収された連続放射を定量化し、相対論的Fe-Kαのプロファイルを精密に決定する。プロファイルが決定できたら、相対論的Fe-Kαの放射モデルを使い、降着円盤の内縁半径を見積もり、これを最内殻安定円軌道(ISCO)と考えることでBHのスピンを制限する。さらに、XRISMのPV観測で質量降着率が高いことが分かり、かつ超高速アウトフローが検出されたIRAS F05189-2524のResolveおよびXtendのデータを電離吸収モデルを駆使しながら再現し、超高速アウトフローの物理状態を明らかにする。これらの結果から加速メカニズムや母銀河に対する影響を議論する。XRISM AO1において、質量降着率が数年間で桁で変化したAGNであるNGC 3516をPIとして160 ksec観測することにも成功した。このデータ解析も進め、質量降着率の度合いによってBH周辺の物質の構造や物理状態がどのように変化するかを定量化し、BHスピンを測定する際に差し引く連続放射の理解に繋げる。軌道上で変化していくXtendの性能を、天体データや校正線源などのデータから見積もり、軌道上キャリブレーションを継続していく。
