Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements
This study investigated frailty in older adults with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), who are often overlooked in preventive care. We examined the association between social participation and frailty to inform future community-based programs. Compared to the general older population (n = 47,178), RA patients (n = 189) showed higher frailty rates, including tooth loss and chewing/swallowing issues. A longitudinal study of 328 RA patients (2021-2023) found that even those in remission had a 20% prevalence of frailty or sarcopenia. Long disease duration in early-onset RA was linked to reduced trunk muscle mass and grip strength. Social factors like laughter and community engagement were also associated with frailty. These findings highlight the need for integrated care combining medical and social approaches for frailty prevention in RA.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
