| Outline of Research at the Start |
初期洋風画や日本からの輸出美術品、あるいは、日本美術の影響が現地化して生み出され た境界領域的な作品は、関連する史料的な情報が極めて限られている。最新の技術によって 得られる技法や素材についての新たな知見は、それらの作品の成立の背景や、制作者の系譜 を解明するための数少ない貴重な材料である。本研究は、広範な光学的科学調査を実施し、 アジア太平洋海域における美術の交通という、16世紀に出現したグローバルな文化交渉の環 境が、日本に何をもたらしたのか、また逆に、日本はその環境に対してどのように反応し何 を提供したのか、その両面を明らかにする。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
From the mid-16th century onwards, the exchange of artworks surrounding Japan and various parts of Asia was far more global than previously thought. This recognition has become more widely shared in recent years, particularly in overseas research. Taking such trends into account, this study goes beyond the issue of Western influence, which has tended to be emphasized in previous studies of Nanban art, to shed light on the global movement of art of Japanese origin that occurred within a diversified transportation network, and the process of dynamic articulation with art from various regions.
In this study, detailed optical scientific surveys were conducted on related works, accumulating fundamental knowledge for examining the environment of global cultural interaction that emerged in the 16th century, namely the exchange of art in the Asia-Pacific sea area.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究は、その重要性が認識されながらも、美術史の専門領域の境界に位置するがゆえに必ずしも十分な研究の蓄積がなされてこなかった慶長期の世俗主題洋風画、およびメキシコ製羽根モザイク画を組み込んだ蒔絵螺鈿聖龕について、系統的な光学的科学調査を実施し、大部の調査報告書を刊行した（PDF版はウェブ公開）した。これは、今後の南蛮美術研究の基盤を強化するとともに、この領域についての社会的関心を喚起する一助となる。また、科学調査の成果も踏まえつつ、本研究は、慶長期のアジア太平洋海域の美術の交通について、グローバルな視野からの展望を示す成果を学術論文を通して公にした。
