Outline of Research at the Start

自らが放出する化学物質が形成する濃度場によって運動の様相が決まる自己粒子系についての普遍的な理解を大きな目的とする。特に2024年度は、変形に着目し、変形が運動に及ぼす影響、運動が変形に及ぼす影響について重点的に研究する。まずは実験により変形しながら自己駆動する液滴の運動をもとに、理論モデルのパラメータを決定することで、どのようなメカニズムで運動しているかが議論できる。運動と変形の関係は細胞運動等にも普遍的にみられることが知られており、モデルの数理構造を解析することで、周囲環境の影響を受けつつ変形・運動する物体に関する普遍的な知見が得られることを期待している。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

Objects that move spontaneously in non-equilibrium systems are called self-propelled particles and have been actively studied in recent years. In the present study, we focused on particles in which an object releases chemicals to the surroundings and moves depending on the gradient of the concentration field created by itself. We investigated the relation between the motion and shape of this type of self-propelled particle. We also investigated how multiple particles interact with each other. We developed a methodology to discuss the motion of this type of self-propelled particle.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

これまで自己駆動粒子系の研究では、自走力が与えられて運動するという仮定のもとでどのような相互作用をするかに注目された研究が多かった。しかし、現実に見られる自己駆動粒子系では、周囲に放出する濃度場と相互作用して運動する系も多い。例えば、ある種の細胞や微生物は自ら放出した物質が生み出す濃度場の勾配に従って運動することが知られている。本研究はそのようなタイプの自己駆動粒子に関する解析手法の提案を行い、具体的に解析ができることを示した。これは、これまであまり扱われてこなかったタイプの自己駆動粒子に関する一般的な知見を与える学術的成果であると言える。
