Outline of Research at the Start

本研究で核心をなす問いは、(1)磁気・光・弾性のダイナミクスにカイラリティが及ぼす影響を共通の原理(対称性原理)で記述できるか?(2)カイラル物質ならではの磁気・光・弾性の交差結合が存在するか?(3)その結果、フォノンの角運動量をスピンに転送するような交差偏極効果が実現できるか?という3点である。特に,カイラル物質では極性ベクトルと軸性ベクトルを対称性の観点で区別する鏡映・反転が無いことが幸いし、これらの混成が可能となる。この理解に立つと、カイラル物質中で磁気、光、弾性が強く結合することがごく自然に期待される。これらの交差相関の在り方を、物理学の基本原理に遡って解明する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

2023年度は,様々なカイラル効果についての混乱を解消するために,電荷とスピンの自由度を共に含む非局所的電子状態において,カイラリティを定量的に記述する方法を見出した.この分類では,電気トロイダルモノポールG0がカイラリティの尺度として機能する.また,キラル性の概念を,物質だけでなく場や物質-場複合体にも拡張した.これらの整理をもとに,カイラル結晶中のフォノンや,光のカイラリティの意味を明確化することに成功した.この成果は論文としてまとめ,現在Physics Letter誌に投稿中である.また,カイラル結晶中のフォノンが運ぶ角運動量に2種類あること,およびその物理的意味を明らかにした.この成果は,A. Kato, J. Kishinem,Note on Angular Momentum of Phonons in Chiral Crystals, Journal of the Physical Society of Japan 92(2023)075002/1-2および佐藤琢哉,戸川欣彦,楠瀬博明,岸根順一郎「真のカイラルフォノンと角運動量」日本物理学会誌79(2024)123-128で発表済みである.さらに,磁性基板上に置かれたカイラル分子が,真空電磁場の揺らぎ(カシミール効果)によって特定の配向に揃う現象を理論的に見出した.この成果は,A. D. Lyakhov, A. S. Ovchinnikov, I. G. Bostrem, J. Kishine, Rotational symmetry breaking of nuclear motion in the Jahn-Teller molecule due to Casimir-Polder interaction, Physical Review B108,(2023)115429/1-10で発表済みである.以上のように,カイラリティが誘導する様々な新規交差相関現象の理論的解明を進めることができた.

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

多極子の概念とカイラリティの概念の結合など,当初予期しなかった概念的発見があった.一方で,大きな目標であるカイラリティが誘導するスピン偏極現象(CISS)については,いまだ実験的な状況の整理が不完全なこともあり,理論的な枠組みの提案がやや遅れている.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

2024年度は本課題の最終年度ということもあり,最終目標であるカイラリティが誘導スピン偏極現象(CISS)の理論的な枠組みの完成に集中する.特に,2024年7月にスウェーデンで開催される当該分野の専門家集団による小規模会合で,まとまった成果を世界に向けて発信できるよう努力中である.
