Outline of Research at the Start

鏡映対称性の欠如したキラル液晶は,様々な周期的秩序構造を自発的に形成する.本研究では,光の分散関係のバンド構造のトポロジーに由来する光学的性質(トポロジカルフォトニクス)を,キラル液晶の秩序構造が示す可能性について,理論的研究を行う.可視光領域でそのような光学的性質を示し,電場などの外場によって容易に性質を制御でき,かつ鏡映対称性の欠如による強い円偏光選択性を有する光学材料の理論的提案を行う.

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

昨年度に開始した,キラル液晶が形成する擬2次元スカーミオン(渦状の配向秩序構造)からなるヘキサゴナル格子と同じ対称性を有する,鏡映対称性が破れているが時間反転対称性が保たれたタイトバインディング模型についての研究をさらに進めた.エネルギーの分散関係を表すバンドのトポロジー,および異なるバンドトポロジーを有する構造の境界面でのエネルギー輸送へのキラリティの存在の影響に関する考察を論文原稿としてまとめた(米澤弦起氏,物質・材料研究機構との共同研究).
また本研究のターゲットの1つである,コレステリックブルー相(キラル液晶が示す3次元秩序構造)について昨年度に開始した,双晶の形成を伴う構造相転移について,熱ゆらぎの影響も考慮に入れた,液晶配向秩序を表す変数の時間発展方程式を数値的に解くことにより,その動的過程を詳細に調べた.過去の散乱実験では得られなかった,実空間における構造変化の過程についての知見を得るとともに,複雑な局所秩序構造の同定には機械学習が有効であることも明らかにした.本成果は現在論文原稿としてまとめているところである(産業技術総合研究所との共同研究).
その他に液晶に関連した研究として,円柱状の容器に入れたネマチック液晶(配向の秩序のみを有する液晶)が容器の壁との相互作用により形成する,鏡映対称性の破れた配向秩序構造について数値計算を行い,実験結果をよく説明する結果を得た.本成果は原著論文として公表した(中央大学との共同研究).また,アクティブな流体のモデル方程式に,容器による閉じ込めの影響をどのように取り入れるかを考察した.滑り境界条件の実装方法を提案するとともに,滑り境界条件の下では壁近傍の流れ(エッジカレント)に振動が生じることを見出し,これらの成果を論文原稿にまとめた.キラリティの影響も容易に取り入れることができると期待している(松清洋輝氏との共同研究).

修士論文,卒業論文の指導と学務に時間を取られたことが,現状進捗がやや遅れていることの理由である.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

擬2次元スカーミオンからなるヘキサゴナル格子の光学的な性質についてはやや進捗が遅れており,フォトニックバンド構造をどのように外的に制御できるかについての数値的考察を重点的に行う.
コレステリックブルー相の双晶の形成を伴う構造相転移については,早急に論文をまとめる.また電場下での構造転移についても既に数値計算を行なっているので,機械学習に基づく構造の同定,評価を共同研究者と行い,論文としてまとめることを行いたい.
