Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では、最新の衛星観測、客観解析データと数値モデルを用いて、成層圏力学場の変化が熱帯低気圧の発生・発達過程に与える影響を定量的に明らかにする。特にこれまで考慮されてこなかった熱帯低気圧の上部の力学過程の果たす役割を定量的に評価する。
具体的には、観測データを用いて対象事例を選定し、2次元軸対称モデルで熱帯低気圧の上層大気に対する応答実験を実施する。また数値実験の初期値依存性や予測可能性、使用する積雲対流パラメタリゼーションによる積雲活動の特徴の違いといった課題に取り組む。さらに最新の数値モデルの成層圏を高解像度に改良し、より現実的な成層圏力学場による熱帯低気圧への影響を定量的に議論する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、最新の衛星観測、客観解析データと数値モデルを用いて、成層圏力学場の変化が熱帯低気圧の発生・発達過程に与える影響を定量的に明らかにする。特にこれまで考慮されてこなかった熱帯低気圧の上部の力学過程の果たす役割を定量的に評価する。
前年度までに、衛星観測および客観解析データの収集及び解析を実施し、数値実験で対象とする事例を2019年9月に発生した南半球の成層圏突然昇温現象(Sudden Stratospheric Warming; SSW)とした。客観解析データによるQBO東西風位相時の熱帯季節内変動現象へのSSWが追加されたことに依るインパクトの結果を学術論文としてまとめた(Kodera et al., 2023)。複数の数値モデル(非静力学モデルNICAMと気象研大循環モデル)を用いて、相互比較するための事前準備、アンサンブル実験を実施した。非静力学モデルにおいて、成層圏の力学場の再現性をより現実的なものとするため、モデル上端のダンピング層を上下させ、それによる影響評価を行ったが、大きな差がないことが確認されていた。しかし一部実験に誤りがあったため再度複数の事例を実験を行って検証を行い、適切なパラメータを適切な数値に設定し直した。その後、96メンバーの大量アンサンブル実験を実施し、初期解析結果を得た。結果を国際学会等で発表を行った。気象研大循環モデルに関しても実験設定を開始した。その事前解析で、ENSOやQBOの背景場の違いによるSSWの発生頻度解析を季節予報データC3Sを用いて実施し、結果を国内の学会等で発表した。
他方、2次元軸対象モデルによる熱帯低気圧の環境場変化の実験を実施した。前年度実施していた計算に不安定解が存在していたため、再度計算を行い、再検証した。

Reason

理論的な考察に関して、期待以上に上層の環境場が熱帯低気圧の発生・発達に影響を与える結果が得られている。
数値実験に関しても統計的に有意な結果が得られる見込みが出てきた。観測データ解析に関しても、背景場の違い(ENSOやQBOの位相の違い等)による解析でも結果が陽に示されている。相互に結果を参照しつつ目的の達成のために研究を推進していける環境場が整っている。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今年度はそれぞれの数値モデルによる実験結果の取りまとめを実施する。
1) 2次元軸対称モデルを用いた上部対流圏の低温化および力学場を変化させることによる疑似的な低温環境の形成による熱帯低気圧の発達への影響評価実験データの解析
2) 成層圏全層を含めた全球非静力学モデルによるアンサンブル実験。数値モデルの初期値依存性を利用し、成層圏内の力学過程の再現の有無による熱帯低気圧の応答を診る実験データの解析
3) 成層圏全層を含めた全球大循環モデルによる再現実験。上述と同じく、成層圏突然昇温現象の予測可能性とそれに応答する熱帯低気圧の発生、発達過程を精査する。
4) 上述の数値実験の結果をそれぞれまとめて、統一的な見解を得るための全体会合を実施する。また得られた成果を学術誌および学会等で発表する。
