Outline of Research at the Start

高い臨界温度(~40 K)と部臨界磁場をもつMgB2と鉄ニクタイド系BaFe2As2(122系)は、小型冷凍機や液体水素を使って冷却することで、液体ヘリウム温度(4.2 K)よりも高温での応用が可能な超伝導体として注目されています。本研究では、優れた素質を持つこれらの超伝導体を多結晶バルク形態で材料化することを目指し、材料合成プロセスの検討と材料科学研究を行います。マグネシウム金属蒸気を駆使するMVT法などの新規プロセスを活用することで、多結晶型高温超伝導バルクを基礎開発します。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

高温超伝導材料を多結晶形態で応用することを目指し、新規プロセスの基礎開発を目的として研究を進めた。本年度は、液体水素温度などで応用が可能な超伝導材料として注目されているMgB2の合成プロセスを主に検討し、比較的大型のバルク体試料の試作を行うとともに、新規プロセスにより得た試料のデータ活用も検討した。
MgB2は粒界弱結合の影響がなく、無配向多結晶体であっても巨視的な超伝導電流を得やすいため、多結晶形態のバルクに高磁場を捕捉することが期待できるが、従来の合成プロセスでは反応時に空隙や不純物が生じることが課題となっていた。そこで本研究では、ホウ素源ペレットにマグネシウムの金属蒸気を輸送し、高充填率なMgB2バルクが得られる、独自のマグネシウム気相輸送(MVT)法を検討した。前年度に得られた化学組成制御に関する知見を元に、約2倍の直径を持つ円盤状バルク体試料を試作した。ホウ素源前駆体粉末を一軸プレスによりペレット成型後、Mg蒸気源と前駆体ペレットが直接触れないように隔壁を介して分離して設置し、不活性雰囲気下で850℃において熱処理を行うことで作製した。化学組成制御をおこなわなかった場合には隔壁のMg拡散孔の配置に由来した六角形模様がみられ、クラックも観察された。一方、化学組成制御を行った場合には、六角形模様やクラックはみられず、比較的組織均質性の高いバルク体試料が得られたことが分かった。表面の付着物を取り除いた後の、バルク体試料表面に対してXRD解析を行ったところ、ほぼ単相のMgB2相が得られており、比較的大型の試料においても相純度が90%以上と高く、不純物が少ないことが確認できた。
一方、鉄系超伝導体については新規プロセスを適用することで試料を合成し、人工知能の手法の一つである深層学習を活用することで、電子顕微鏡の画像から高精度な3次元ミクロ構造をモデル化することに成功した。
