| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Stimulus-responsive polymers change their physical and chemical properties in response to external stimuli. Among these, temperature-responsive polymers are the most studied. Upper critical solution temperature (UCST) type polymers dissolve in a solvent at temperatures above the UCST but undergo phase separation at temperatures below the UCST due to polymer aggregation. When a crosslinking agent is added during the preparation of UCST type polymers, the polymer forms a three-dimensional network structure and forms a gel. UCST-type gels release solvent at low temperatures and absorb more solvent at higher temperatures. We prepared a temperature-responsive gel (P(VBTAC/NaSS) gel) using cationic monomers (VBTAC), anionic monomers (NaSS), and a crosslinking agent (PEGD) to evaluate its temperature responsiveness.
