Outline of Research at the Start

無水糖の一種であるレボグルコサン(LG)は環境中に比較的多く存在することが明らかとなっており，未利用資源とも考えられる.研究代表者らは以前に，このLGを効率よく分解する好熱菌を見いだし，本菌におけるLGからグルコースへと至る代謝経路を解明した.その代謝経路は少なくとも2つの新規酵素が関与することが分かっている．本応募研究ではこれら新規酵素の立体構造を決定し，その反応機構を詳細に解析することで ，本菌におけるLG代謝の全容を明らかにすることを目的の1つとしている．また，それらの基礎的な知見を生かし，未利用資源としてのLGの有効 利用法をいくつか提唱する．
