Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、形質の多様性と共通性を結ぶ一般化理論の構築を目指す。近年の形質生態学の発展により、地球上の多種多様な植物の形質が定量的に評価されてきた。形質は闇雲に多様化しているわけでなく、物理化学的な共通性や生態・進化的なプロセスによる収斂により、ある程度規定される。しかし、形質の多様性と共通性を結ぶ一般化理論や概念は未だ存在しない。本研究では、ミクロ的な面での共通性として、光合成速度の決定要因である葉δ13C濃度に注目し、またマクロ的な面での共通性として、適応度の指標である相対成長速度に注目する。ミクロとマクロのそれぞれに、種を超えた強い共通性があり、その両者を繋ぐ諸形質に多様性があるという仮説のもと、本研究では、形質多様性の全体像を捉え、その論理基盤を整備し、フィールドデータによりその実証を目指す。
R5年度は、ミクロ面においては、高所作業車を利用して、新たに導入した光合成測定器を用いて高木の光合成測定を京都と苫小牧で行った。また既存の葉の形質データの解析に取り組んだ。マクロ面においては、亜熱帯である屋久島において、毎木の再調査と光環境測定を行い、個体による成長速度の違いと光競争を解析できるようになった。また相対成長速度の変化の要因を探るために、屋久島、和歌山、苫小牧の3地域の全ての二次林サイトにて、樹種による繁殖開始のサイズ依存性の調査を行い、繁殖開始がサイズと光環境の両方に依存することを定量的に示した。
その他、本プロジェクトに密接に関係する研究成果も複数あった。

マクロ面のデータは相当充実した。またミクロ面においても高所作業車を利用した光合成測定が軌道に乗りデータが集まり始めた。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

ミクロ面では、光合成測定を九州や京都、東北など、異なる緯度で実施し、形質の分化と収斂の関係に関するデータを得る。マクロ面では、データ解析を進め、論文化を目指す。
