Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements
This project investigates the role of bone marrow aging in age-related diseases and organ aging. In Project A, using a BSA-induced nephropathy model, we confirmed that young bone marrow reduced disease severity even in aged recipients, while aged bone marrow worsened it in young recipients, suggesting bone marrow aging contributes to disease progression. Project B reviewed the incidence of age-related diseases in long-term bone marrow transplant recipients. Project C examined rejuvenation of aged donor kidneys via bone marrow transplantation, using P16-positive cells as an aging marker. While initial studies showed only weak correlations and no rejuvenation at one year, further studies in larger cohorts and animal models are ongoing.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
