Outline of Research at the Start

高階関数を量子コンピュータで実装する高階量子演算を利用し、その連結によって量子プログラミングを記述する関数型の量子プログラミング方法の確立を目指す。関数型量子プログラミングにより、新奇な量子計算アルゴリズムはもちろんのこと、量子学習・量子プログラマブルマテリアルなど、より広い分野へ量子コンピュータを応用する新奇な量子アプリケーションを提案する。また、量子情報処理における時間(=計算の因果構造・情報処理のステップ数)と空間(状態空間の広さ・量子メモリ数)の関係を解明し、情報処理の観点からの量子系における時空構造の基盤的理解を深めることにより、量子コンピュータの新たな特性や効能を見出す。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

今年度は、次の3つのテーマを置いて相互に関連づけながら研究を遂行した。
1.高階量子演算のカタログ作成と新たな量子プログラミング方法の確立:引き続き、入力ユニタリ変換を複数回用いる場合の高階関数の実装方法である高階量子演算を数多く発見し、これらを組み合わせた量子プログラミング方法の確立を目指した。そして、高階量子演算を実装する量子アルゴリズムの半正定値計画法による最適化を効率的に行うため群論を用いた定式化を進め、量子ビットの未知のユニタリ演算を逆演算化するユニタリ反転を4回のユニタリ演算のコールで決定論的に正確に実装する新しい量子アルゴリズムを構築に成功した。また、この量子アルゴリズムは触媒的なユニタリ演算の使用ができるという従来にない特徴を持っていることが判明し、触媒的な資源を有効活用した新たな量子プログラミング戦略が実行可能であることを明らかにした。
2.高階量子演算を利用した量子アプリケーションの研究:引き続き、高階量子演算を利用したアプローチによって、量子物理系の解析や量子シミュレーション、量子センサーに応用を目指した新たな量子アプリケーションを探索した。その結果、未知のハミルトニアン動力学の線形変換を実装する新しい量子アルゴリズムの構築に成功した。このアルゴリズムは関数型の量子プログラミングによって発見した点が特徴的である。
3.高階量子演算の分散型量子計算への応用:分散型量子計算のシステムを高階量子演算の新たな応用先として考察し、未知の多体ユニタリ演算に対して局所的に作用する超通信路で実行するタイプの新たな高階量子演算の量子タスクを探索し、分散型量子計算により高階量子演算を効率的に実装する量子アルゴリズムの構築を行なった。特に2量子ビット演算に関して、局所操作と古典通信のみで逆ユニタリ演算に変換する量子アルゴリズムの構築に成功した。

1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.

Reason

2022年度に新型コロナウィルス感染症の影響が予想外に継続したことにより分散型量子計算に関する研究を予定通り実施することができなくなったため、繰越により研究期間を延長したが、この間に、次のような特に重要な二つの大きな進展があった。
一つは、これまで不可能であると思われていた、正確かつ決定論的な量子ビットのユニタリ反転を実装する4コールでの量子アルゴリズムの構築である。この量子アルゴリズムでは触媒的高階量子アルゴリズムという新しい概念も発見し、高階量子プログラミングの研究にブレークスルーを与えた。
もう一つは、ハイゼンベルグ限界を達成するハミルトニアン学習にも用いることができる未知ハミルトニアン動力学の線形変換を実装する高階量子アルゴリズムの構築である。この量子アルゴリズムは、相関したランダムネスを活用した量子アルゴリズムとしても新奇性があり、また、アルゴリズム構築の際に関数型プログラミングの手法を用いているという点も、従来の量子アルゴリズム設計にはない特徴を持つ。
さらに、分散型量子計算のシステムを高階量子演算の新たな応用先として考察し、分散型の高階量子演算という新しいアイディアに基づいた量子アルゴリズムの設計に成功した。正確で決定論的な量子ビットのユニタリ反転の量子アルゴリズムにおける触媒的効果を完全除去することにより、局所操作のみによる制御ユニタリ演算の逆演算化を実行する量子アルゴリズムの提案に成功したことにより、今後の高階量子プログラミング研究の新たな発展の方向性を示すことができた。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

次年度も、今年度に引き続き次の3つのテーマを置いて相互に関連づけながら研究を遂行する。
1. 高階量子演算のカタログ作成と新たな量子プログラミング方法の確立:(1-a)引き続き、入力ユニタリ変換を複数回用いる場合の高階関数の実装方法である高階量子演算を数多く発見し、これらを組み合わせた量子プログラミング方法の確立を目指す。特に、量子プログラミングにおける新しいプログラミング戦略として、昨年度発見した触媒的超写像を用いる戦略の考察をさらに進めて定式化を行う。(1-b) 入力演算は未知であるが入力状態は既知である場合の高階量子演算を考察する。また、入力演算について全て未知ではなく一部既知の「グレーボックス」と呼ばれるタイプの高階量子演算の定式化を行う。
2. 高階量子演算を利用した量子アプリケーションの研究:引き続き、高階量子演算を利用したアプローチによって、量子物理系の解析や量子シミュレーション、量子センサーに応用を目指した新たな量子アプリケーションを探索する。特に、ハミルトニアン動力学に対する高階量子演算の研究を発展させ、量子シミュレーション・量子センサー・量子誤り蓄積の削減などに応用する。
3. 高階量子演算の分散型量子計算への応用:昨年度に引き続き、高階量子演算の新たな応用先として分散型量子計算のシステムを考察する。局所的に実行するサブルーチンを超通信路で接続することによって実行するタイプの新たな高階量子演算の量子タスクを考察し、分散型量子計算により高階量子演算を効率的に実装する量子アルゴリズムを考察し、量子通信量(またはエンタングルメント量と古典通信量)やサブルーチン間の因果構造と並列性、サブルーチンの匿名性を解析する。
