Outline of Research at the Start

現実の多くのインフラネットワークは非常に脆弱で、それら脆いもの同士が支え合っているが、特に遠隔制御など通信を担う情報ネットワークは極めて重要である。一方、甚大な被害をもたらす自然災害や悪意のある攻撃による脅威が年々増大する中で、現状は場当たり的な対処となっている。しなやかな復活力を持つ「レジリエンス」が近年注目されてはいるが、概念的な議論に留まり、分断化を防ぐネットワークの設計・運用の指針は示されていない。

そこで、最新の研究動向を踏まえたネットワーク科学や統計物理学の手法を活用した定量的なシミュレーションや理論解析から、自律分散処理に基づくネットワーク増強の実現メカニズムを明らかにする。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

Many socio-technological infrastructure networks are extremely vulnerable even with supporting each other, in which information networks are particularly important taking on these remote controls, while our response is ad-hoc in increasing threats of natural disasters and intentional attacks. Although resilience with flexible elasticity is recently taken notice, it is still only conceptual and gives no guideline for design and operation to avoid the fragmentation of network by such disasters and attacks. Thus, we have revealed the autonomously distributed mechanism to increase the connectivity of networks by enhancing loops to be far from trees as much as possible based on numerical simulations and theoretical analyses in network science and statistical physics.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究では、代表者らがこれまで見出したネットワークの自己組織化法を発展させ、自己修復の分散アルゴリズム化の実現法を提示し、現実的な通信網の構造を含む網羅的な次数分布の連続変化における頑健性強化の基本的性質や最適耐性な構造、災害時における代替経路の効果等を世界に先駆けて解明した。しかも、数理モデルの研究に留まらず、提案手法では既存ネットワークの構築部分を捨て去ることなく、その上で修復やリンク追加等を行う無理のない考え方に基づくことから、通信網のみならず電力網や輸送網など広く実際のネットワークシステムへの適用可能性も期待できる。
