Outline of Research at the Start

再生可能資源由来エネルギー(再エネ)を主力化するための蓄電池や太陽電池などの技術は、レアメタルや貴金属といった鉱物資源を基幹的な部品に含み、温室効果ガス(GHG)排出による気候変動リスクとは異なる資源消費リスクを引き起こしうるため、リサイクルによる循環が不可欠である。本研究では、適用可能な資源リサイクル技術オプションの全組み合わせを記したスーパーストラクチャを構築し、ライフサイクル評価(LCA)による技術評価結果を用いて、気候変動や資源消費といった環境影響を最小化するリサイクルシステムを設計する手法を開発する。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

In the context of a society progressing towards green transformation, we specifically examined lithium-ion batteries and solar panels as emerging technologies that urgently require resource circulation measures, and conducted trials of preemptive life cycle design. Various technologies aiming for carbon neutrality are currently in development stages, with active demonstrations underway. While advancing individual technologies is critically important, we found it essential for a society truly achieving green transformation to implement preemptive life cycle design methods capable of designing technological systems that comprehensively consider future-oriented states and preemptively address anticipated challenges.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

カーボンニュートラルに限らず、持続可能な資源とエネルギーの生産と使用を実現するためには循環を前提とした技術の組合せが必要である。このとき、技術の組合せによる効果を評価する手法としてライフサイクルアセスメント(LCA)が用いられるようになってきたが、技術を組み合わせて有効なシステムとして設計するためには、新たな方法論が必要である。本研究では、化学プロセス設計などで用いられてきたスーパーストラクチャアプローチを応用し、LCAにおいて比較すべき技術の組合せとシステムをあるべきシステムの性能から逆設計し、最適な資源循環を目指すための方法論を事例と共に提案した。
