Outline of Research at the Start

昨年度に実施した山形県材木遺跡の調査は、在地石材を用いた装身具製作の痕跡を具体的に明らかとした本州地域での初の事例となった。しかし、30点余り発見された石材は未だに類例のない「未知の岩石」である為、今年度も引き続き類例発見と鉱物学的な分析を進める。
装身具を佩用した人骨は全国的にも少なく、特に貝塚等の遺存環境の整わない内陸部では殆ど資料が見当たらない。そこで新たに洞穴遺跡の調査を実施して装身具佩用の人骨の発見を計画する。広範な地域での類例比較を通じて、本研究の目的とする縄文社会における装身具の佩用原理と社会的制度についても、新たなアプローチが可能となるとの見通しを得ている。
