本研究では、無名の人びとが生きるなかで、周りにあるものを巧く「使い回し」、「なんとかやっていく」生活の技芸と知識、創造力、そして
情意が埋め込まれたヴァナキュラー文化の事例研究を蓄積し、そのなかから普通の人びとの「生」と結びついた日常の創造的生活戦術を読み解
く。さらにその研究方法や理論を検討することによって、日本の民俗学にヴァナキュラー文化研究の視座を構築し、その研究領域を拡大する。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Vernacular culture refers to a form of culture located outside the mainstream of a given cultural phenomenon. It is informally generated by self-taught non-specialists who spontaneously create new expressions. As such, it is a creative culture, brought into being through resourceful practices such as appropriation. In this study, we introduced―on a pioneering basis in Japan―research methodologies related to vernacular culture, which have recently garnered significant attention in overseas folkloristics, and examined the feasibility of applying these methodologies and their practical implementations in Japan. The findings indicated that vernacular culture research has the potential to become a major driving force in drastically reshaping the traditional approaches to folkloristic studies in Japan.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究は、これまで日本で着目されておらず、その重要性が十分に理解されてこなかったヴァナキュラー文化という新しい民俗学のジャンル、および研究視角を先駆的に日本の民俗学に導入し、その方法や研究例の具体像を明らかにし、その応用可能性を明らかにした点で学術的な意義がある。また、日常の生活世界で生きる非専門的な多様な普通の人びとたちが生み出し、展開するヴァナキュラー文化の多元的な価値を尊重し、それに内在する人びとの思い、生き様、そして創造性に主たる眼目を置き、非中心的な文化論の研究・実践例を蓄積した点で、大きな社会的意義がある。
