| Outline of Research at the Start |
「ミリタリー・カルチャー」の概念を枠組みとして、自衛隊退職者に対する意識調査を行い、その結果に基づいて、現代日本の戦争観・平和観とその歴史・文化的背景を社会学的に分析する。それにより、現代日本の戦争観・平和観およびその歴史・文化的背景の構造的布置状況を解明し、今後の日本の平和・安全保障問題をめぐる討議に貢献しうる新たな学術的知見を創出する。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In June 2023, we conducted a "Survey on Attitudes towards Security and Defense Issues" targeting retired SDF personnel (2,060 web survey monitors). In August 2024, we published the results of the analysis in the report "How do former SDF personnel view the SDF? Survey and report on attitudes towards retired SDF personnel" (Seikyusha). In March 2025, we also published a related paper, "Attitudes of former SDF personnel towards the relationship between the SDF and civil society: Quantitative analysis based on a survey of retired SDF personnel" (Social Systems Research, No. 28). In addition, in January 2025, we created and published a "Database of books by retired SDF personnel" as data related to the survey of retired SDF personnel.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
自衛隊退職者を対象とする意識調査を中心とした本研究成果には、次のような学術的・社会的意義がある。自衛隊退職者は、かつては軍事を専門とする職に就き、現在は一般市民として生活しているという両面性をもつ。そこで、それらの人びとの平和・安全保障問題に関する意識や、（元当事者としての）自衛隊像を分析することにより、（研究代表者らが2021年実施した「自衛隊に関する意識調査」で明らかになった）平均的な一般市民との意識の差異を明らかにし、両者を比較対照・総合することで、現代日本の平和・安全保障問題に関する立体的・客観的な学術的知見を獲得し、自衛隊と市民社会との相互関係を明らかにすることができた。
